Happy Players

texas dutchmenIt all started with a 2013 Christmas gift and the “Beer Barrel Polka” on a cell phone… Glucklicke Spielers ( The Happy Players) is the name of the youth polka band from Fremont Middle School (Fremont NE).  The Fremont Middle School band director, Steve Steager, overheard the cell phone tune and mentioned to the student that he could teach him to play the drums along with the recording. A baritone player in the band received an accordion for Christmas (he now owns six!) and was taking lessons. Add in a couple more students to round out the group and the story begins.  They first played for open mic night at the Kolac Korner in Prague, NE and quickly followed that with a performance during the Prague Czech Heritage Day. They participated in and won the Fremont Days Talent Show and they regularly perform at events, restaurants, and care centers in the area. They are very excited about attending the National Polka Festival in Ennis, TX. The Happy Players love to play instruments and watch people dance, sing, and smile”!
